Where is the best state to own an electric car?

Automakers have entered the electric vehicle market as nations around the world strive to reduce their emissions and tackle climate change. In the United States, President Joe Biden has urged manufacturers to stop producing gasoline-powered cars and trucks by 2030.

But America’s development of the financial and physical infrastructure that supports the purchase and operation of electric vehicles across the country has been less consistent, a recent survey shows.

Bumper.com, which provides VINs and other data for car purchases, looked at 10 EV finance and operation metrics to rank which states are friendliest to own an EV.

Seven of the top 10 states were in the west, and six of the bottom 10 were in the south. Utah ranked second overall, making it into the top 10 for financial incentives, infrastructure, charging station growth, and EV registration as a percentage of all vehicle registrations.

The full list and a breakdown by category can be found here.

Motor Trend speculates that the regional inequality could be the popularity of trucks that seem to be preferred by southern motorists. But automakers rely on truck owners to drive electrically.

“Other independent truck manufacturers such as Ford, Chevrolet, GMC, Ram, Canoo, Tesla and Atlis all have fully electric rigs (pickups and SUVs) in the starting blocks or designed and must present practical examples for use in practice sooner rather than later” , reported Motor Trend.
