Man shot in the stomach in the parking lot of a pub

A man was shot in the stomach tonight in an attack in a pub on Merseyside.

Merseyside Police officers were called into the parking lot of The Netherton Pub on Church Road, Litherland, at 7:10 p.m. to report that a man was shot dead while getting into a car.

The 33-year-old man was admitted to hospital for treatment for a gunshot wound to the upper body and his condition is described as serious.

A spokesman for the force said: “We are asking for information after a man was shot in the upper body tonight in Litherland.

“It was reported that the perpetrator was about 1.70 m tall and wearing a light gray or blue jacket. He reportedly arrived at the scene and drove away in a car.

“The officers have put up a cordon and will stay in the area to provide forensic, CCTV, door-to-door and witness inquiries, and to speak to the local community.

“At this point it is believed that the shooting was aimed.”

Chief Inspector Rob Ross said, “Using a gun in a pub parking lot on a Saturday night is an incredibly reckless and dangerous act, and we share the anger the community will feel at the news of this attack.

“Our officers are currently speaking to witnesses and examining CCTV footage for clues as to why this happened and, most importantly, who is responsible so that they can be brought to justice.

“We are very keen to hear from anyone we haven’t spoken to who witnessed the incident, or saw or heard around 7.10pm that someone was behaving suspiciously in the area.

“You can live near the pub or have passed the area on foot or in a vehicle by that time. Any information you have, or dashcam or CCTV footage, could help us find the person who did this and remove them from the street.

“Through intelligence from our communities and a range of proactive police operations and tactics, we have seen a decrease in firearms incidents over the past two years.

“We are determined to continue to prevent them so that our communities can continue to live, work and enjoy the evening without fear of such incidents.

“If you tell us about this incident, we will take positive action and make Merseyside safer.”
