Used car buying guide: Lamborghini Murciélago

Lamborghini increased the stakes on the final variant of the Murciélago: the hardcore LP 670-4 SuperVeloce, which cost a staggering £ 265,937. Only 350 were produced. The 6.5-liter V12 was ramped up to 660 hp, allowing 0-100 mph in 3.2 seconds and 212 mph. The extensive use of carbon fiber helped shed 100kg, and a larger wing could be fitted with the Aero Pack for extreme, track-oriented intentions. The understeer was reduced, the body control improved and of course it was incredibly fast.

In total, Lamborghini made 4099 Murciélagos, but there are many on the market. It cost £ 175,000 when the car first arrived in the UK and the timing was good. Today prices start at around £ 130,000 but some cars have held their value and others with low mileage have soared. But no matter what they will cost in the future, one constant will remain: no Murciélago was and will never be cheap to run.

Here’s how to get one in your garage

An owner’s opinion

Will Langridge

“I have a manual LP 640. I noticed the Murciélago compared to a Ferrari or an Audi R8 because of its ferocity, but it’s also pretty beautiful. You can’t go wrong with this V12. It is one of the best sounding cars to date. I’m usually not a fan of convertibles, but the roadster made sense as I wanted to hear that sound all the time, and it’s still ridiculously fast. If I had to highlight any problems it would be that the roof is tedious to remove and put back on, which is risky at best in England. An owner I know also had problems with the e-Gear system. You convinced me to opt for a complete manual. “
