A shocked driver told how the rear window of his car “exploded” when temperatures rose to 27 degrees across Scotland.
Kevin Scott’s one-year-old Renault Kadjar was parked outside his house on Saturday when his wife asked him to get something out of the trunk.
But the 58-year-old noticed that something was wrong with the glass in the rear window of the engine and initially thought it could be condensation or moisture inside.

But on closer inspection, he found that the entire rear window had splintered into a “spider web” made of broken glass.
Kevin of Newton Mearns is now facing a £ 150 deductible for his insurance to replace the broken glass and await the arrival of the new screen.
He said: “My Renault Kadjar sat all day yesterday in the afternoon heat in my off-road driveway. My wife asked me to get something out of the trunk.
“As I walked around the back, I noticed that everything was kind of crystallized after breaking into thousands of small pieces.
“At first I thought it was condensation that you can get into the window if you have a leak, but I thought it was a bit strange.
“I touched it and then it started to give way and I realized that the whole thing was gone. “The temperature gauge read 27 ° C when I opened the car door to get in the back.
“When my wife took a photo of it a few minutes later, it was 25 ° C. It’s just amazing.
“I don’t know if it’s a design flaw in the car that builds up the heat inside, but I’ve never heard of anything like this before.”
Renault was contacted for comment.
