Driver was stunned when the car’s windshield shattered during the heat wave while parking on the drive

A shocked driver says his car window broke while parking in his driveway as temperatures rose across the country.

Kevin Scott discovered the cobweb of broken glass on his rear window when he jumped out to get something from the trunk of his engine.

The 58-year-old says the “crystallized” window gave way when he touched it, the Daily Record reports.

One-year-old Renault Kadjar stood outside Kevin’s house in Newton Mearns all day Saturday before realizing the problem.

At first he thought it was condensation until he got close enough to see the real problem.

Now he has to pay a £ 150 deductible for his insurance to replace the broken glass and wait for the new screen to arrive.

He said: “My Renault Kadjar sat all day yesterday in the afternoon heat in my off-road driveway. My wife asked me to get something out of the trunk.

“As I walked around the back, I noticed that everything was kind of crystallized after breaking into thousands of small pieces.

“At first I thought it was condensation that you can get into the window if you have a leak, but I thought it was a bit strange.

“I touched it and then it started to give way and I realized the whole thing was gone.” The temperature gauge read 27 ° C when I opened the car door to get in the back.

“When my wife took a picture of it a few minutes later, it was 25 ° C. It’s just amazing.

“I don’t know if it’s a design flaw in the car that builds up the heat inside, but I’ve never heard of anything like this before.”
