A Cheshire police spokesman added there was no evidence the incident was linked to an encounter reported a week earlier in Beechwood, in another part of Runcorn, when a boy ran home after a man driving a white van, stopping it and asking “for help”.
He said: “At 8:45 pm on Tuesday, August 10th, police received reports of suspicious activity in the Castlefields area of Runcorn.
“The caller reported that they were driving on Castlefields Avenue East at 7:40 pm on August 10th when they saw a dark car that appeared to be following a young boy.
“The woman turned and spoke to the boy, advising him to go home.
“The dark vehicle was seen driving off towards Astmoor Road.
“There is no evidence that the incident was related to the suspicious activity on Cherry Blossom Road, and at this point the officers were unable to track down the boy.
