Extra time to have a say in whether roadside car sales should be banned in Nuneaton and Bedworth

Residents will be given additional time to comment on plans to ban roadside car sales in Nuneaton and Bedworth.

Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council has expanded its consultation to include proposals that could result in a ban on roadside car sales on main roads across the borough.

An additional three weeks were given to comment on the proposed public space protection order which would ban the sale of vehicles on category “A” and “B” roads in the two cities.

As we reported in our newsletter, the ruling Conservatives want to bring the ban to the end of the years when highways are “spoiled” by cars left for sale.

Lutterworth Road, Hinckley Road, Eastboro Way, Gipsy Lane and Camp Hill Road in Nuneaton and Rabbit Lane in Bedworth are among the hardest hit areas.

Tackling roadside auto sales is long overdue, according to Council Chairman Kris Wilson, who previously said it has been flooded with complaints over the years.

“These are people who often spoil the landscape and try to get around the rules – they usually don’t have the same protection as going to a regular auto store or garage,” he said.

“They report that they do it as a hobby when in reality it is often done to make money. Some of them have been found not to have been taxed or insured, so they are also a liability for the residents of that district , and it is high time we did something about it.

“I am glad that we have preferred this to a new government in the six weeks.

“The sooner we get that in, the better.”

This is how you can get involved
