A man and woman were flown to hospital in critical condition and 17 others were also hospitalized after a collision between a minibus and car west of Tamborine near Brisbane on Sunday morning.

Paramedics, including two rescue helicopters, were called to the site on Mundooun Road at 10:19 am after the bus and car collided head-on and the drivers of both vehicles were trapped.

The male minibus driver and driver were trapped in their vehicles for more than an hour before being rescued by the Queensland Fire and Rescue Services. Both were flown to hospital in critical condition.

The male minibus driver was air freighted to Princess Alexandria Hospital.

Queensland Ambulance Senior Operations Supervisor Steve Clarke said all passengers were buckled up and the main injuries were bloody noses, scratches and bruises from the glass that broke on them.

“The youngest person we transported was a 13-year-old boy with only minor injuries, only bruises and abrasions,” he said.

The oldest was between 65 and 70 years old.

Clarke said it was a reminder to slow down and focus on the streets.
