Anger when a loud moving car wakes the residents of Warndon Villages in the early hours of the morning

FURIOUS residents of Warndon Villages say a loud car keeps them awake in the early hours of the morning.

Jan Hill, a resident of Stirling Avenue, Berkeley Beverborne, says she was one of those who woke up earlier this week and is now calling for action to be taken against the perpetrator.

“I was angry,” she wrote on the Warndon Villages Community Group Facebook page.

“It was someone just driving around. It woke me up at 3am and I couldn’t get back to sleep because it kept coming back.

“There has to be something we can do about it because it’s not the first time.”

The resident told Worcester News that the car woke her up at 3:05 a.m. Tuesday morning, the last time she heard it was at 4:15 a.m.

She added, “I’ve been bothered by cars racing around at night since I moved 20 months ago, but unfortunately I haven’t kept a journal. I’ll do that now and I’ll call the police to make it happen.”

Other local residents, including those in Ronkswood and Great Meadow, said they heard the vehicle, and many said it wasn’t the first time the car was often heard in the early hours of Monday or Tuesday.

Andy Roberts, Warndon City and County Councilor, said he will now take on the police, hoping a sonic trap similar to a speed camera could be used to catch offenders.

“I can imagine the frustrations of the residents who suffered as a result, but I understand the police as they are difficult to pin down,” said Cllr Roberts.

“These vehicles have been reconfigured or specially rebuilt to be loud – it’s incredibly selfish.

“Before the pandemic, the idea was to have sonic traps along the line of speed traps to catch these types of vehicles.

“I liked that very much, it seemed like a brilliant idea – it will have a time.

“I will do everything I can to ensure that we are at the top of the list in our region.”

West Mercia Police were asked for a comment but no one responded before our deadline
