A former Dyfed-Powys police officer who stole a battery from a crashed car was dismissed from police service after a hearing for misconduct.

Oliver George West was on duty when he was involved in a car accident on the Pembrey to Trimsaran road in Carmarthenshire in January this year.

The force’s professional standards department opened an investigation into the incident, and West was suspended in February.

He pleaded guilty to theft from an engine and was given a communal order in July ordering 200 hours of unpaid labor. He was also sentenced to pay £ 85 in costs and a sacrifice surcharge of £ 95.

West stepped down and appeared at a wrongdoing hearing earlier this month where he admitted gross misconduct.

The former police officer is now placed on the College of Policing’s blacklist, which prevents him from being employed by any police or other law enforcement agency in the future.
