Police have opened an investigation after a man was hit by a car on a Scottish street before an engine was pulled from a sewer in two incidents believed to be related.
Officials were called to a “disturbance” at around 7.45 pm last night in Beaufort Gardens, Beauly in the Highlands, which police say “affected a number of people”.
A 38-year-old man was taken to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness for treatment for serious injuries after being hit by a vehicle in the incident.

Police were then called on a report that a car had pulled into the Caledonian Canal near the Muirtown Basin in Inverness at around 8:55 p.m. last night.
Divers and naval forces recovered the car this afternoon and it was confirmed that no one was in it.
The officers are now asking for information on the two incidents, which are being treated as linked.
Detective Sergeant Louise Thewlis said, “Our investigations into these incidents are ongoing and we are treating them as interrelated.
“Our investigations so far suggest that the incident was targeted and there was no danger to the general public.
“I would like to urge anyone with information that could help our inquiries to contact us.
