A man was killed in a collision in South Shields.
At around 8:55 p.m. on Monday, ambulance services were called to Beach Road after a report of a collision with a vehicle.
Officials were in attendance and discovered that a white Vauxhall Corsa had collided with a lamp post outside City Hall.

The driver of the Corsa – a 57-year-old man – was pronounced dead despite the best efforts of the paramedics at the scene.
His family has been informed and is supported by specialized family officers.
A 25-year-old male passenger who was also in the vehicle was uninjured.
Sergeant Matt Sykes of the Northumbria Police Department said: “Every death on our streets is a tragedy and we are determined to find answers for the man’s family.
“We will continue to offer them all the support they need during this terrible time, and they have asked that their privacy be respected.
“We’d like to hear from anyone who was in the area – or who saw a white Corsa traveling in South Shields at the time – to get in touch.
“Please review all dashcam recordings and if you see anything that may aid our investigation, please contact us as soon as possible.”
The investigation into the circumstances of the clash is ongoing.
