Police arrested a 33-year-old woman on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol after rescue workers became aware of reports of a car hitting a bridge.
The force, along with paramedics and firefighters, was called to Leek Road in Abbey Hulton at around 2:30 a.m. yesterday.
They discovered that a car had hit the disused railway bridge.

Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service dispatched a crew from Hanley, while West Midlands Ambulance Service dispatched an ambulance and a medic after being contacted by police.
After the incident, a 33-year-old woman from Stoke-on-Trent was arrested on suspicion of driving a vehicle while inactive from alcohol and was also taken to Royal Stoke University Hospital, according to Staffordshire Police.
A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: “We were called by police at 2:49 am on October 28th at the intersection of Leek Road and School Road.
“An ambulance and a paramedic came and found a car that had collided with a bridge. The driver, a woman, had got out of the vehicle.
“Upon examination, she was found with minor injuries and treated on-site before being taken to Royal Stoke University Hospital for further examination.”
A police spokesman said: “The officers were called at around 2:30 am on October 28th after reports of a road collision on Leek Road were reported.
“It is reported that a car crashed into a railway bridge. The Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service and an ambulance also took part in the incident.
“A 33-year-old woman from Stoke-on-Trent was arrested on suspicion of driving a vehicle while inactive from alcohol and was taken to Royal Stoke University Hospital for treatment.”
