Body found Sunday after car pulled off ferry into water on Kingston Peninsula

An RCMP underwater rescue team found a body Sunday after a car drove from an inoperative ferry into the water at Gondola Point Ferry Terminal on the Kingston Peninsula.

RCMP Staff Sgt. Jeff Johnston said the body was found in the car around 3 p.m. It is believed that the person was the only occupant of the vehicle.

He said there was an ongoing investigation and no further information was currently available.

According to the RCMP, first responders participated in a phone call that a vehicle had dropped into the water from one of the ferries before 9 p.m. on Saturday.

The ferry service was closed on Saturday and Sunday due to an ongoing strike by some CUPE workers in the province.
