A van owner claims his van was mistakenly dragged across a parking lot in an industrial area in Notts while attending a class where police are investigating the incident.
Rudy Rengers, 59, a Hillarys Blinds advisor, attended a training course at their training academy in Bilborough’s Glaisdale Business Park on Wednesday November 10th.
Sometime between 4 p.m. and 4:30 p.m., says Rudy, he heard a vehicle alarm in the parking lot.
He said he hadn’t thought of it at first as the alarm had been ringing for a while, but then he glanced outside and saw his silver Ford Transit being towed across the parking lot.
Rudy says his vehicle had the handbrake on and there were tools in the back.
He said, “Strangely, I was pretty shaken by it, it touched me – I’m just a gentle old soul who doesn’t want any mental agony and I had to concentrate on training.
“When I saw my van being towed, I put it on its feet outside and there was a man in a Burrows recovery vehicle towing my van.
“He had a license plate number that didn’t match mine, and he also had a key to the vehicle he was looking for, but he thought it appropriate to drag my vehicle across the parking lot.
“He said to pick up an Enterprise van with a dead battery, but my alarm went off so the battery was clearly not dead.”
Rudy then reported the incident to Nottinghamshire Police.
He said, “I don’t know what damage was done at the time, but the drag could have affected things like the tires and maybe the transmission if the gear was in.
“It really didn’t feel right, so I called the police and they wondered if it was a crime or a real mistake.”
Rudy’s vehicle was returned to where it was originally parked after the incident.
PC Dean Richards of Nottinghamshire Police said: “We are currently investigating a report of an attempted vehicle theft on Glaisdale Parkway in Nottingham on November 10th.
“The officers have spoken to the owner of the vehicle and the investigation is ongoing.”
