Audi is going all-electric, plans to phase out gasoline and diesel cars by 2026

Audi plans to phase out its ICE vehicles, which run on conventional fuels such as gasoline and diesel, in the next five years. The German auto giant will now concentrate exclusively on electric vehicles in order to meet the automaker’s goal of reducing environmentally harmful vehicles from its range and only including electric vehicles from 2028.

According to a report, automaker Audi has set a date for the last launch of new combustion models. Company boss Markus Duesmann told works councils and top managers on Thursday that no new petrol and diesel models will be presented from 2026, and also no hybrid versions, reports the “Süddeutsche Zeitung”.

As part of the electrification of the Volkswagen Group, Audi plans to introduce up to 20 battery-operated electric vehicles over the next five years.

The last market launch of an ICE vehicle from Audi will be a Q model, which is likely to be an urban SUV and will go on sale later. After that, Audi will only sell battery vehicles worldwide. The Audi A3 and A4 models will no longer have direct successors, but will be completely redesigned and renamed.

An Audi spokesman said the company was not speculating. Audi has already announced that it will no longer develop new combustion engines, but only improve existing ones.

Audi recently presented the electric crossover Q4 e-tron 2022. It offers a range between 321 km and 520 km on a single charge.

Audi, which is part of the Volkswagen Group, relies on its parent company to electrify its entire fleet of cars. Volkswagen is one of the traditional manufacturers that is aggressively pushing for electric cars in the industry in order to achieve CO2 neutral status. With its ID.3 and ID.4 models, among other things, it represents a serious alternative to a market currently monopolized by Tesla.
