A local man described seeing a brick thrown through his daughter-in-law’s car window.

The incident is said to have happened between 10 and 11 January around midday outside the victim’s home on Lion Wood Road, near Woodrow Pilling Park.

The father-in-law, who asked not to be named for fear he or his family would be targeted again, said: “I noticed that my daughter-in-law’s rear window was broken.

“On closer inspection, we found a brick in the back seat.

“As far as we know, this is just a senseless act of vandalism and while it’s unlikely to be personal, it’s hard not to feel like a victim.

“It caused my daughter so much stress. Every time someone walks past her house, she gets scared.”

Along with the act itself, the time and money it took to fix the vehicle’s rear window has also taken its toll on the family.

The victim’s father continued: “There was broken glass everywhere including the front seat – it cost £500 to have the window replaced.

“The rock was thrown with such force that it shattered the parcel shelf at the front of the car and rebounded onto the back seats.

“I am disabled myself and in my current condition I am helpless to do anything.

“There’s nothing you can do, you just have to hope it doesn’t happen again.”

Although those involved are unknown, it could be part of a larger wave of violence in the area.

The worried Lion Wood member added: “It seems that wing mirrors and tires are a common target.

“Even the window specialist who replaced the glass in the car commented on how many he treated in the estate.”
