A DRIVER had to regret his decisions after a failed three-point corner left his vehicle in a lake.
Bystanders said the man backed up a grassy slope that led down to the water while attempting the maneuver on a narrow road.
He lost traction and his car slid down into the wastwater, luckily a well-placed rock stopping the slide and bringing it to a halt at the edge of the lake.
The photo was taken by Peter White who was on a family camping vacation in the area.
Mr White said he spoke to a family at the scene who were waiting for roadside assistance to arrive and who had seen the scene with the white Toyota earlier in the day.
He said the family clarified what happened to him.
Apparently there was a family of four in the car. Three of them had got out to photograph Wastwater while the driver tried to turn near the brick shelter towards the Nether Wasdale end of the lake.
He backed up onto the grassy slope by the side of the road and the car slipped.
Mr White, from Bolton, said the family had not been with the car when it first came to the scene. The next day – Wednesday evening – he returned to the place and the vehicle was no longer there.
“It was just one of those novelties,” he said.
“I’ve never seen a car in a lake with a stop, so I started taking the pictures.
“Given the overtaking opportunities and the slope in the grass, I wouldn’t do that.”
