A driver has been arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs following an accident on the M56 west of Manchester Airport.
A car overturned in the early morning hours of Friday on the west lane of the M56 near junction 9 at the Lymm / M6 interchange.
Traffic has been temporarily suspended between Junction 9 and Junction 8 at the Bowdon, Altrincham and A556 motorway junction.
Northwest Highway Police participated in the incident.
The officials wrote on Twitter that the driver was located shortly after the accident and allegedly tried to leave the scene.
They said he is now on remand after allegedly failing a drug test.
The North West Motorway Police tweeted a picture showing a white BMW that was wrinkled after the accident.
The police said, “Fortunately no one was injured.”
The road was opened to traffic at 3.15 a.m., Highways England announced.
