Q. I know that Spain has been offering grants for buying new cars and tax breaks for disposing of your old car for a number of years. Is this still valid and how do I find out about it?
ML (Costa del Sol)
A. Yes, it’s called Plan Moves III and is now limited to grants for all-electric and hybrid vehicles. It does not provide grants for gasoline-powered vehicles. The plan took effect in September and will run for the next three years.
It offers total aid of 67.5 million euros. Specifically, the maximum amount a person can receive is 7,000 euros if they buy a fully electric or plug-in hybrid vehicle and dispose of their current car that is more than seven years old. If he doesn’t scrap his old car, the grant drops to 4,500 euros. The grant does not apply to vehicles with a range of less than 90 kilometers and therefore cannot be used for mobility scooters.
Private individuals can receive a grant of 70 percent for the installation of charging stations. The best thing to do is to find out more from your car dealer. He wants to sell you a car and makes sure you get the best deal possible.
