Electric cars have been something of a passing curiosity in the automotive industry – at least, up until around ten years ago, when manufacturers really began to zone in on research and development. Previous iterations of the all-electric vehicles have been disappointed, owing to their short driving range and limited power. These issues, though, are issues of the past.
Today, new electric cars are being developed left-right, and center – and not a moment too soon, as the shift away from fossil fuels and towards a more ecological approach to driving begins in earnest. Popular makes have been overhauled and borderline replaced by electric alternatives, as the technology finally begins to adequately compete against the internal combustion engine. With a bevy of new models slated for release throughout 2022, there’s never been a better time to consider an electric car lease or purchase.
Here are just a few of the electric cars set for a 2022 debut, each of which has its own unique stake in the EV market
BMW iX M60
The BMW iX M60 is a deeply impressive entry into the all-electric SUV cars corner, with a futuristic design and even more futuristic elements to be discovered under the bonnet. Volkswagen ID 5
Volkswagen already has something of a pedigree as a purveyor of reliably engineered vehicles, and the ID 5 is no different. The ID 5 is an all-electric hybrid coupe-SUV that’s every bit as arresting to look at as it sounds. A large wheelbase pairs well with a sleek, low-profile body, giving you the best of both worlds. It also boasts rapid-charging capabilities that will see you gaining 62 miles of range in as few as 7 minutes.
Cupra Born
The Cupra Born is an unassuming entry to the EV market in 2022 but is every bit the making of a sleeper hit. This all-electric 4-door compact can drive for well over 300 miles on a single charge and is eminently customizable on purchase. Promising a smooth drive and comfortable interior, this sleek city car is a distinguished choice for the urban driver.
Porsche Taycan GTS Last but certainly not least, is the Porsche Taycan GTS. Electric cars are allowed to be fun – and granted, many compact or saloon models are given the surprising amount of torque hidden under their hood. But Porsche has utterly cornered the market with their near-unfathomable all-electric souped-up ‘supersaloon’.
The Taycan is textbook Porsche without the V8; the Taycan GTS boasts 563 bhp and 626 lb-ft of torque. It is safe to say that this is not a car for the weekly supermarket dash. It promises grins aplenty, with a light ecological load to boot.
