Final warning to Dundee drivers as parking fees return next week

Motorists in Dundee have been reminded that parking fees will return to the city next week.

A number of changes to the current rules are due to come into force after the Council has declared it is the right time to reintroduce the charges.

When stores reopened after the coronavirus lockdown, we reported how the council hopes to offset parking fee income by reversing changes made in December last year.

In Menzieshill, Orleans Place will become a paid car park. Non-resident users will have to pay at the new parking meter to stay longer than two hours.

The council said it introduced the change to help local businesses by generating sales.

The first two hours of parking are free, but you still need to show a ticket with your arrival time.

Fixed overstay penalty

The car park in the Menzieshill Community Center remains free, but parking is strictly limited to a maximum of four hours. Any vehicle found to exceed this limit will be subject to a fixed penalty fee.

As in the parking lot at Orleans Place, a ticket issued by the parking meter shows the arrival time, according to Dundee City Council.

Most of the changes will take effect on May 10th

In the downtown area, the Shore Terrace parking lot will be converted from walking payment to payment and display.

The barrier system that has existed since 2014 will be decommissioned, although the barriers will be retained to support traffic management at events.

Parking garage users can use the parking meters, which enable contactless payment, or pay via the Just Park phone app.

The rules will change from May 10th

All changes will go into effect on Monday (May 10), along with the reintroduction of charges in most communal and multi-level car parks in the city, as well as street pay and exhibition bays.

The reintroduction of fees at the Roseangle, Pennycook Lane, Miller’s Wynd, Ryehill Lane, Mid Wynd, Union Street North and Bellfield Street North car parks will be suspended until the beginning of the University of Dundee semester on September 27th.

A report to the city council said reintroducing fees would help local businesses.

It states: “The reintroduction of charges on May 10th will increase vehicle sales in on-street parking, which is important for many companies on the main street.

“The reintroduction of parking fees will also help support public transport operators who are looking to regain patronage after a difficult period of operation where the Scottish government mandated that buses should only be used for essential journeys. This guide on bus usage has now been revised to allow for advance planning. “

Dundee City Council will reintroduce parking fees next month, with exceptions in the West End
