Hamilton Moreno, 36, allegedly crashed a stolen car through a security gate at an airport in Pinellas County
A Florida man was arrested after allegedly crashing a stolen car through an airport security gate and then running into the cockpit of a Coast Guard aircraft.
Hamilton Moreno, 36, could face federal charges after allegedly tumbling through a fence around St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport in Pinellas County on Saturday at around 5 a.m. before heading down the runway, according to the Pinellas Sheriff’s Department County.
Moreno was using a vehicle that was reportedly stolen in Tampa the night before, police said.
Airport MPs followed Moreno, but he sped off and crashed into a security gate.
He stopped the car in a large hangar and ran into the cockpit of a parked C-130 plane, where police found him and took him into custody.
There were no injuries or property damage at the scene.
Moreno has been taken to Pinellas County Jail and faces multiple charges including escape and flight, trespassing, aggravated car theft, burglary, two cases of criminal mischief and habitual traffic offenses.
Moreno could also face federal charges that are pending. His bond was set at $ 24,150.
