Free parking in the municipal car parks in the run-up to Christmas

One community in Somerset offers free parking in all their car parks during the holiday season.

The Sedgemoor District Council has announced that for the three weekends leading up to Christmas Day, people will be able to park in any of the 18 community-owned parking lots in Sedgemoor without paying a penny.

The agency has lifted its fees to help local businesses over the Christmas season and improve local trade affected by the coronavirus pandemic.

The free parking spaces are available on Saturday 4th, 11th and 18th December.

In addition to helping business owners, the council hopes the move will give people an added incentive to shop locally during the holidays.

At the rate machines in the multi-storey car parks, notices indicate that parking is free.

The 18 car parks have a total of 1,691 parking spaces.

Although the community relies on income from the parking garage to pay the costs of running the parking lots, such as is considered more important to support the local economy this winter.
