Greece will be among eight EU countries that offer incentives for electric cars, Secretary General for Energy and Mineral Resources Alexandra Sdoukou said on Thursday.
The comments were made during the online event “Electricity: technological developments and the prospects for German-Greek cooperation”.
“Thanks to the framework we have set up to promote electromobility, Greece is currently one of the eight EU countries that offer a comprehensive network of direct and indirect incentives for the replacement of old, obsolete and environmentally harmful vehicles,” said Sdoukou.
“The result of this policy was a spectacular increase in electric car registrations in 2020, which peaked in December when the rate hit 10%,” she added.
As she emphasized, the initiatives of the Greek Ministry of Environment and Energy.
The best example she gave was the “I MOVE ELECTRICALLY” initiative, which has reduced the purchase price of an electric vehicle by around 30% and made it more affordable.

“Our vision is to set up production units in the country’s electric mobility chain, develop industry and create jobs,” she said.
She also noted that there are already generous financial incentives in place to build production lines for building and assembling things like electric scooters, cars, or chargers.
