CCTV footage revealed two men cheating on death when a giant tree fell on a car while they were unloading it from a shopping spree.
When Storm Arwen raged through Greater Manchester last night, Les Webb had just parked his Honda Jazz in front of his friend Anthony Blanchard’s house on Kent Road, Cheadle Heath.
They were in the process of unloading goods they’d bought from their trip to IKEA when the tree in the park across from the house swallowed the car and them.
Miraculously, the car took the full weight of the log and Les, 54, and Anthony, 47, escaped from the branches that surrounded them with slight abrasions.

Anthony told the Manchester Evening News, “If the car wasn’t there, we would have been killed.”

“My car is written off, but it definitely saved us. It’s a miracle we weren’t killed. I saw the tree fall as we unloaded the trunk and it just seemed to happen in slow motion. It was very terrifying, but we are lucky enough to be here. “
City officials rushed to the site to clear the tree, which sat on the edge of Cheadle Heath Park and which fell the width of the street as it fell.
