Man dead, four hospitalized after a car accident at an outdoor restaurant in Perth CBD

A man in his 70s is dead and four people are injured after a car pulled down a curb last night and a parked car crashed into a group of people at a restaurant in Perth’s CBD.

Police say a Land Rover was being driven on Pier Street near Murray Street around 6:30 p.m. when it stepped onto the sidewalk and hit a parked corolla that hurled it into an outdoor group of guests.

The Land Rover kept going, drove a short distance before rolling, crashed into another parked car and landed on the roof.

A 71-year-old man was killed and four people – including the driver – were rushed to the Royal Perth Hospital in an ambulance while others were treated on the spot.

The driver of the car was taken to the hospital and later charged. (

The driver, a 60-year-old man, was taken into custody and charged with driving dangerous and fatal in serious circumstances and without a license.

He remains in the hospital in grave condition.

Several other cars were also hit, with one toppling over on the roof.

The driver, who is from the Wheatbelt town of Walebing, is due to appear at a bedside hearing in Perth Magistrates Court today.
