Mazda launches its first electric car in the US: the MX-30 EV for $ 33,470 with a range of just 100 miles

Mazda is launching its first electric car, the MX-30 EV, and with a starting price of $ 33,470 and a range of just 100 miles, it is likely to have a tough time.

The Japanese automaker has long been a laggard when it comes to electric vehicles.

It only launched its first all-electric car last year, and only for the European market, where regulations are forcing automakers to bring more electric vehicles to market.

Additionally, the vehicle itself, the MX-30, wasn’t exactly that impressive:

“The MX-30 has a 35.5 kWh battery and a drivetrain with 105 kW (142 hp) and 264 Nm (192 lb-ft) of torque. The range is given as 130 miles (~ 210 km) for the European model, which is likely to use the WLTP test standard. “

Now, over a year later, Mazda is launching the MX-30 in the US.

Today the automaker announced prices for the MX-30 in the US market, starting at $ 33,470:

MX-30 EV $ 33,470
MX-30 EV with Premium Plus package $ 36,480

After EV incentives, the vehicle will cost less than $ 25,000 as it will only be available in California so far.

It might still be hard to sell as Mazda kept the 35.5kWh battery, and with the EPA driving cycle, this results in a range of just 100 miles:

“The modern styling ensures fascination, the captivating driving dynamics ensure driving fun and the latest Mazda features combine everything to create an emotional bond with the electric crossover. With an EPA estimated range of 100 miles on a full charge, the MX-30 can easily be the ideal companion for your daily commute. The MX-30 was developed for the needs of most city dwellers and is equipped with a 35.5 kWh lithium-ion battery, which helps to maintain its excellent driving dynamics and to protect the environment. “

Mazda expects the first shipment of the MX-30 to arrive at US dealerships in California this fall.
