Police have warned that parking any parking lot could result in your car being towed.
Greater Manchester Police tweeted a photo of a car blocking a bike lane on Wilmslow Road, South Manchester, warning:
“If you park like this on Wimslow Road @GMPLongsight, you get a ticket for a disability and run the risk of the car being lifted.”
In June 2020, the Ministry of Transport (DfT) announced that local authorities would be given more powers to punish drivers who park or charge illegally on prescribed bike lanes.
The DfT allowed the local councils to use video surveillance to arrest the delinquent drivers and to impose fines on them.
“If the local authorities are given more powers to prevent the blocking of cycle lanes, it will be safer for cyclists,” said the MP for Cycling Minister Chris Heaton-Harris at the time.
Drivers are never allowed to park on prescribed cycle paths, ie on those marked off by a solid white line. According to the road traffic regulations, motorists are allowed to park on the signposted cycle paths – marked by a dashed white line – but only if such a measure is “unavoidable”.
