Sony shows SUV and will investigate the construction of electric cars as “Sony Mobility Inc” – TechCrunch

At CES in Las Vegas tonight, Sony’s chairman, president and CEO Kenichiro Yoshida showed off a brand new prototype of his Vision S electric car and announced that the Sony Group is creating a new division – Sony Mobility Inc, commercializing its electric vehicles.

On the CES stage during the Sony press conference, the company showcased its existing Sony Vision S sedan, which was unveiled at CES last year. This year there is also a new model in the range, the Sony Vision-S SUV prototype.

“The excitement we felt after introducing the Vision-S really encouraged us to think further about how we could bring creativity and technology to transform the experience of moving from one place to another,” said Yoshida before he unveiled the new Vision S SUV prototype. “This is our new Vision S SUV. Vision-S was designed with security, adaptability and entertainment in mind. Safety was our number one priority in creating a comfortable mobility experience. This has not changed in the construction of this SUV either. A total of 40 sensors are installed inside and outside the vehicle to monitor safety.

“In terms of adaptability, we have connectivity that allows us to build a vehicle that is constantly evolving. It also allows the cabin to be personalized for each user. With 5G, it enables high-speed, high-capacity, and low-latency connectivity between the in-vehicle system and the cloud. The VIsion-S also develops mobility as an entertainment space, ”said Yoshida. “The VIsion-S also evolves mobility as an entertainment space, including gaming experiences and audio. We learned more about mobility from our exploration of VIsion-S and from our partners who supported this effort. “

Sony announced that it is forming a new company – Sony Mobility Inc. – to accelerate efforts to “explore the commercial rollout of Sony’s electric vehicle” in the future.
