Supercars are back on track in NSW in October

The suspended Supercars Championship will get back on track next month with four consecutive race weekends at Sydney Motorsport Park if NSW emerges from the coronavirus lockdown.

COVID dramas across the country have devastated the 2021 championship, which has been on hiatus since consecutive events in Townsville in July.

Events in Winton, Phillip Island and Surfers Paradise all had to be abandoned while the flagship Bathurst 1000 was moved.

The championship will return from October 29th with the first of four events at the Eastern Creek facility in western Sydney.

On the following three weekends, further events with different formats and regulations as well as night races will take place there.

The championship will then travel to Mt Panorama on December 5th for the Bathurst 1000 season finale.

This means all remaining races will be held at the COVID-affected NSW, which is expected to come out of lockdown in mid-October when the state hits 70 percent full vaccination.

Fans can take part in all events whose ticket information will be communicated by supercars in the near future.

“What an exciting five-week period for motorsport in NSW with five spectacular events to round off the 2021 Supercars Championship season,” said NSW Jobs and Tourism Secretary Stuart Ayres.

Shane van Gisbergen has an impressive points lead over veteran Jamie Whincup, who is returning to the season.
