A man and woman are in hospital after being mowed down by a car in Motherwell.
The couple, both 54 years old, were struck by an engine on Muirhouse Road on Friday.
According to the Daily Record, the police were called to the scene at around 11:10 a.m.
Pictures of the crime scene show three police cars and two ambulances in the area.
The injured pedestrians were taken to Wishaw General Hospital for treatment.
The nature of their injuries and their current state of health are not yet known.
Police confirmed the incident Friday night when their investigation began.
Muirhouse Road will remain closed to traffic.

A police spokesman for Scotland said: “Officials in Motherwell visited Muirhouse Road on Friday 9 July at around 11:10 am after reports of two pedestrians were hit by a car.
“Emergency services started and a 54-year-old man and a 54-year-old woman were taken to Wishaw General Hospital.
“The road remains closed and an investigation into the full circumstances of the incident is ongoing.”
