A young man who sustained a serious brain injury in a car accident as a child has received £ 11 million in severance pay to fund the specialized lifelong care he needs.
The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, suffered several serious injuries in the incident in south London in the early 2000s.
He was flown to the hospital where he suffered multiple seizures and was later diagnosed with a serious brain injury.

He was treated at Great Ormond Street Hospital and released after just under two months.
His parents directed a law firm to take legal action against the driver of the vehicle that hit their son.
But more than a decade after the collision and without a rehabilitation package, the Irwin family hired Mitchell to handle their case in 2017.
Since then, the family’s legal department has secured a series of interim payments to finance rehabilitation that have allowed the man to move into his own apartment, where he is supported by a 24/7 team.
The driver’s insurance company has now settled a £ 11 million settlement that has been approved by the High Court.
The funds will ensure the man continues to have access to the vital rehabilitation and therapy he needs and has a care team on-site to help him live as independently as possible.

Anna Pask, Irwin Mitchell’s Family Specialized Injury Attorney, Anna Pask, said after the hearing, “The family’s life has been turned upside down by the devastating injuries our client sustained in the collision.
“The love and care our customer has received from his family cannot be questioned. Unfortunately, for many years they did not get the support they needed to make sure he received the care and rehabilitation he needed.
“While still facing many challenges, our client’s story is evidence that even those with the most severely life-changing injuries can make progress when given the proper care and support they need.

“Although no amount of money can ever make up for the serious injuries my client suffered, the comparison gives the family the assurance that his care will be assured for the rest of his life.
“We also hope that this case serves as a warning of the devastating consequences that families have to face as a result of the actions of other road users.”
Due to an order issued by the High Court, it is prohibited to reveal the name, age and other details of the case to the public.
