Toyota offering to buy back these recalled electric cars

Toyota is now offering to buy back models of a recalled electric SUV crossover because the vehicle had loose hub bolts on the wheel that could detach while the vehicle is moving.

The vehicle, the bZ4X electric SUV, was recalled less than two months ago after the vehicle’s release, according to Electrek.

The automaker initially advised car owners not to drive the vehicles and call their local Toyota dealers to receive a loaner car while waiting for their vehicles to be fixed.

But multiple reports revealed a letter from Toyota to customers that said the company is also willing to fork over a $5,000 credit, free charging at EVgo charging stations through 2024 and an extended warranty.

If the owner is still unsatisfied with these perks, Toyota says it would buy back the vehicle, which carries a sticker price of $42,000 and up.

“We know that our customers have many choices when it comes to purchasing a vehicle. We appreciate their loyalty and are supporting them through this recall,” Toyota said in a statement obtained by The Verge. “However, if a customer does not want to proceed with the provided options, we will offer to repurchase their bZ4X.”

Toyota says the buyback depends on the owner’s circumstances and place of residence.

The recall affects about 2,700 vehicles.
