A council has criticized “vandals” who disrupted information boards in a seafront car park.
Redcar and Cleveland Council said stickers with information about a new charging policy that went into effect at Redcar’s Majuba Road parking lot have been removed, causing confusion among motorists.
Previously, the parking lot only required a fee between May and September, but a year-round fee was introduced in April to cover the municipality’s maintenance and security costs.

A spokesman said: “As a temporary measure, stickers detailing the new fee policy were placed on the existing information boards, defacing the outdated information and conveying a clear message of the new terms and conditions.
“In addition, new information boards were installed in front of all payment machines.
“Regrettably, vandals have removed the information stickers on one of the information boards several times over the past month, which may have caused confusion for users of the car park.
“Our officers have been constantly restoring incorrect wording and re-posting stickers with the correct information.”
The spokesman said the council is in the process of permanently installing new information boards in the car park.
He also said any members of the public who may have received a hefty fine from wardens after mistakenly failing to pay for tampering with the panels have an opportunity to appeal a fine.
