Think back to Prince Harry and Meghan’s royal wedding when we were as obsessed with Meghan’s two wedding dresses as we were with the celebrity guests who were at Windsor Castle. The wedding of Harry and Meghan distinguished them as thoroughly modern royals, and no more than with their emission-free wedding car – a one-of-a-kind Jaguar E-Type from 1968 that had been converted to fully electric. The newlyweds looked straight out of a James Bond movie as Harry drove his bride to their evening wedding reception at Frogmore House in their unique car. And it seems the royal couple knew something good when they saw it, as the Jaguar E-Type was named the best British car of all time.

The Jaguar E-Type is famous for being called the most beautiful car in the world by Enzo Ferrari. The Austin-Healey 3000 came second, the Mini third. Prince Charles’ favorite engine, the Aston Martin DB5, took fourth place. The Ford GT40, Land Rover (Series I) and Lotus Elan (MkI) were also on the shortlist.

Marcus Atkinson, Managing Director of Hagerty UK, who surveyed over 1,000 classic car enthusiasts, stated: “The Jaguar E-Type is a timeless design piece that was rightly on display at the Museum of Modern Art, while the Austin-Healey 3000 is the epitome of one British roadster that is perfect for blowing the cobwebs away on a sunny Sunday morning. But all I know is that the debate about the best British classic car will continue to rage among car enthusiasts. ”
