Angry locals slammed a “nightmare” parking lot in York because of its “ridiculous” small spaces, calling it “the UK’s narrowest parking lot”.
To say that Castle Car Park on Tower Street is unpopular would be an understatement.
Over the years, many Yorkers have declared their hatred of the parking lot and vowed never to park there again.

Locals say the 268 seats are tiny, leaving little room to actually get out of the car without denting someone else’s door.
In addition, some have claimed that the risk of a parking fine would be less expensive than paying the high prices in the castle car park.
Local Resident Paul Hagston said, “Castle Car Park has to be the closest parking lot in the country.
“If you can manage to park and squeeze out of your car (ideally you need to weigh less than two pounds), which is virtually impossible without slamming the car next door, then you’ll need to take out a loan to pay for your stay.” . “
He added, “It is an absolute nightmare to park there.”

Others on social media agreed.
One person said, “I hate that parking lot! It’s so stressful! And even I struggle to get my car out and only a Corsa would hate having a bigger car in it.”
Another said: “I avoid it like the badge! The best place for door dents and damage!”
A third wrote: “It costs more money to park there for a full day than not paying, getting a ticket and paying the fine!”

While a fourth said, “Hate it, refuse to park there, ridiculous places.”
And one resident, seeing the humor in the situation, said, “Why not do what I do – park in Tadcaster and walk to York – a lot cheaper, you exercise and can go to Tad Kebab on the way back – what could be more ? You ask for? “
York City Council is currently preparing plans to redesign the area around Clifford’s Tower, where Castle Car Park will be closed.
Proposals include a play area, event space and a possible extension of the York Castle Museum.
