2 dead, 1 in critical condition after a car accident in Brampton

After a car accident in Brampton on Saturday morning, two people are dead and another in critical condition, according to Peel police.

Police were called to Bramalea Road and Steeles Avenue before 12:30 p.m.

The collision involved a 2015 Freight Liner truck that was driven by a 47-year-old Brampton man and a 2014 Chrysler 300 that was driven by a 21-year-old Mississauga man.

One person – a 19-year-old Mississauga man – was pronounced dead at the scene. He was the Chrysler’s passenger. Two more were hospitalized with one receiving CPR en route.

The Chrysler driver died in hospital a few hours later. The passenger in the back seat, a 20-year-old man from Mississauga, is still in critical condition.

It took the ambulance, fire brigade and police cooperation to get the three people out of the car, said Insp. Stephen Duivesteyn.

According to preliminary investigations backed by a surveillance camera nearby, Duivesteyn said the car with the three people appeared to have passed a red light and crashed into a tractor trailer turning left.

The driver of the articulated lorry was uninjured, but the damage was “considerable”.

Peel Police are calling on anyone else in the area who has dashcam or surveillance footage to contact the police.

Similarly, Duivesteyn said anyone who saw “something strange or irregular” nearby prior to the crash should contact the police.
