MIAMI (AP) – Three teenagers, who police said were linked to the weekend shootings at a Florida graduation ceremony on Monday, are charged with a separate attack that targeted two people in a car.
Miami-Dade police said in a press release that the three were spotted in a red Chevrolet Malibu outside a hookah lounge where the graduation ceremony was taking place.
Three people died and at least five were injured in that early Sunday shooting. Two of the dead sat in a bullet-riddled car that crashed into a nearby wall. It’s not clear what role they played in the filming.
Separately, the three of them left the party in the Malibu and spotted a Nissan Altima, which they recognized from the congregation driving south of Florida’s turnpike. An affidavit states that two of the youths shot a pistol and a rifle into the car and injured the driver’s leg. One passenger was not injured.
The injured driver is being treated at a local hospital, police said.
Quantayvious McCutchen, 19, charged with attempted first degree murder; his brother, 17-year-old Yahtayvious McCutchen; and Keyshad Richardson, 19. They were arrested Monday and it was unclear if they had a lawyer to represent them.
No one was charged with shooting the graduation ceremony themselves, which police say appears to be part of a gang feud.
A victim of the graduation shooting was identified by state officials as Tyleisha Taylor, 20, a correctional officer who had worked at the Dade Correctional Institution since January 2020. Authorities do not believe she has been targeted.
Sunday’s shooting follows a bloody Memorial Day weekend in the Miami area that left three people dead and 20 injured in an unsolved mass shooting in a banquet hall.
Another shooting on May 28 in the Wynwood area killed one person and injured six others.
