A car crashed into the building of the Harvard Lampoon, a humorous publication for students, late on Sunday evening.
In a video reviewed by The Crimson, a gray Ford sedan can be seen on the Mt. Auburn Street bike lane. The car turned left to avoid a bollard, knocking over a parking meter and traffic sign, before hurtling into the side of the Lampoon building.
Cambridge Police and Cambridge Fire Services responded to the incident.
According to eyewitnesses, the driver of the car was uninjured after the accident. The Lampoon building was barely damaged by the crash, with one of its lower windows broken.
Several members of Lampoon left the building to examine the scene. Maxwell A. Gay ’21 -’22, President of Lampoon, declined to comment on the scene.
Nathan Sun ’24, an editor for Crimson Business, said he had just passed Lampoon around midnight on his way to his apartment on DeWolfe Street. He said he heard a car swerve behind him and noticed that the roads were slippery due to the rain.
“At first I thought someone drove over a pothole or something. But I look back and there was just this car that drove into the lampoon and then the horn goes off, “Sun said.
Jordan H. Barton ’23 posted a video on Twitter showing the aftermath of the crash.
In an email, Barton wrote that they lived in Adams House on Plympton Street, where they had a clear view of the emergency vehicles that are in charge of the Lampoon building.
“Even though my roommate and I weren’t at street level, our windows were open so we heard the first noise – a sudden wheel spin and then a big thud – at street level and then we heard the car horn go on and started to sound and at least heard it Not up for 10 minutes, ”wrote Barton.

Pierre J. Lamont-Dobbin ’24 said the driver of the car got out of the vehicle and appeared fine as he watched the damage to his car.
“I was in my house in my Adams dormitory right there and all we heard was a huge crash and then the honking. We literally thought it was thunder. And then I just got my roommate. I was like, ‘Let’s go and make sure everyone is fine,’ ”said Lamont-Dobbin.
In 2019 a vehicle crashed into The Crimson building while trying to park on Plympton Street. The driver suffered minor injuries and the building was slightly damaged.
