Green light for new multi-storey car park in Northumberland Conservation Area

County Council for Seghill with Seaton Delaval Paul Scott in the East Cramlington Nature Reserve.

The East Cramlington Nature Reserve car park will be relocated and expanded to create 11 additional parking spaces while introducing additional anti-social behavior measures.

The program will cost £ 18,000, with £ 10,000 jointly funded by local councilors Paul Scott, Christine Dunbar and Scott Lee through their local membership fees.

The remaining £ 8,000 will be funded from the Parks Enhancement Capital Program.

Located between Seaton Delaval and Cramlington, the reserve is a popular walking spot and home to the Cramlington District Red Squirrel Group and the local Model Airplane Club.

Both groups do valuable on-site work, including small pavement repairs, tree maintenance, vegetation control, and garbage collection.

The new multi-storey car park will be relocated directly to the north side of the current access road to the A192 with parking spaces for up to 17 vehicles.

A lockable barrier will be installed outside the parking lot to control access to the site and stop motorbikes while the existing access road is being raised and relocated. A crossing point for horses will also be installed.

Cllr John Riddle, County Council Cabinet Member for Local Services, said, “This reservation is well used by a number of local groups and is a popular place for dog walks, but parking was somewhat limited.

“These improvements should make it easier for more people to enjoy the area and experience the tranquility that the reserve offers.”

The Seghill District Council with Seaton Delaval Paul Scott was delighted to support the project.

He said, “This project will greatly improve access to the nature reserve that serves Seaton Delaval, East Cramlington and the surrounding area.

“I had no hesitation in contributing any money from my change and I would like to thank Councilor Dunbar and Councilor Lee for doing the same.”
