A lane has been closed on the A38 in Derbyshire after a collision between a lorry and a car

A traffic accident blocked a lane on the northbound A38 between Ripley and Watchorn Island, Alfreton.

According to traffic surveillance service Inrix, salvage work was underway at the scene and the road was closed.

A car and lorry were reportedly involved in an accident, with the latter driving down the embankment of Derbyshire’s main road.

Officials at the scene posted this image of the incident on Twitter.

Traffic was queuing at the site and diversions were put in place via the A610 towards Ripley to discourage motorists from the area.
