Witness says there are two cars at the scene
A local witness said there were several police cars, three ambulances, two fire engines and two fire service technical vehicles.
There are two badly damaged cars inside the police cordon, a gray Opel and a blue car, the make of which is unclear.
The witness said there were around 30 rescue workers on site, mostly firefighters, who spent about 45 minutes cutting a woman out of one of the vehicles.
A screen was placed around the car.
The ambulance landed in the parking lot of the nearby JD Gym on Scholey Street across from Bolton Police Station. It is believed that the woman was taken to hospital on the street.
GMP Serious Collision Investigation Unit officials are said to be on site to investigate.
A large cordon about 400 meters long remains in place.
Manchester Road is cordoned off from the junction with Scholey Street to the junction with Weston Street.
People couldn’t get in and out of the Asda store parking lot because the entrance was blocked inside the cordon.
