- Both new EVs from BMW will arrive in the US in the first quarter of 2022.
- The i4 is a four-door hatchback starting at $ 56,395 that comes in 335-horsepower eDrive40 and 536-horsepower M50 versions.
- The iX is a crossover starting at $ 84,195, available in a 516hp xDrive50 version and eventually as a more powerful M60 model with more than 600hp.
BMW’s two latest electric vehicles will arrive in America early next year, and we now have a lot more details on their prices, powertrains and features. The i4 is similar in size and shape to the 4-series Gran Coupé, while the iX is a medium-sized SUV with polarizing styling.
2022 BMW i4
The BMW i4 will be available as standard in a rear-wheel drive configuration called the eDrive40 from $ 56,395 – that’s roughly the starting price for a six-cylinder M340i as a reference. It has a 335 horsepower electric motor in the rear and an 81.5 kWh battery that offers an estimated EPA range of 300 miles. It is said to accelerate to 60 mph in 5.7 seconds. The i4 has 18-inch wheels as standard, and 19-inch wheels as an option.
There’s an M-marked version of the i4 with more power called the M50, which starts at $ 66,895 – a few thousand dollars less than the gas-powered M3. It adds a front-electric motor for all-wheel drive and has a total of 536 horsepower and 586 pound-feet of torque. This should make it considerably faster than the RWD car, with BMW claiming it can get to 60 mph in 3.9 seconds. Its battery is the same as the 40s model, and BMW estimates it will offer 240 miles less range with a preliminary estimate. It includes adaptive dampers, variable steering and 19-inch wheels as standard, and 20-inch wheels as an option.

In the USA there will initially only be one version of the BMW iX. It’s called xDrive50, with all-wheel drive as standard and a total output of 516 hp from two electric motors, one at the front and one at the rear. Its battery is considerably larger than the base i4’s at 105.2 kW, but its range estimate of 300 miles is the same. BMW claims to get to 60 mph in 4.6 seconds.
The iX’s starting price of $ 84,195 is somewhere between the six-cylinder and V-8 versions of the three-row X7 gasoline SUV, but the iX is sized more like the smaller X5. It has only two rows of seats that can accommodate five passengers.
BMW says a sportier, more powerful iX M60 is on the way, but has not yet released any details on this model. All we know is that it will be over 600 horsepower and it will likely look a bit different and include chassis upgrades as well. We also assume that the price will go into the six-digit range.
