Car windows smashed in the NCP car park in Brighton

An angry man has urged car park operators to improve security after his windows were repeatedly broken.

Jack Payne of Rottingdean found his car broken on July 30th after finishing a shift at the Waggon and Horses pub on Church Street in Brighton.

He says the second time this has happened in the National Car Parks (NCP) parking lot on Church Street in recent months.

Jack said that some changes have been made to his car and that the hardest problem is getting the windows and frames fixed.

The last incident occurred on July 30th.

The 26-year-old said, “They left my little boy’s car seat, it’s just people trying to get money.

“Although the worst part is the inconvenience, I know these people were in the car rummaging around where my child is sitting.”

Jack said he reported the incidents to the police and NCP. He said his insurance company told him it was the sixth break-in they learned about in the same parking lot in the past eight weeks.

He wants NCP to do more to put an end to the car break-ins.

Jack said, “There should be video surveillance and more security – even if someone walks around the site at night.

“My job costs a lot of money to have a season ticket to use the parking lot.

“It should be so easy to deal with, I have a work app that tells you about people who have been banned from pubs who can then be kicked out.

“I emailed NCP but they didn’t bother to answer, I called them and got no answer, and I even went under but can never find anyone.

“I still have to park there because it’s convenient for work and there aren’t many other parking spaces in the area.”

NCP is the UK’s largest private car park operator with over 150,000 spaces in more than 500 urban and airport parking spaces.

The Sussex Police are investigating the incident and will ask people or witnesses to come forward if they have information.

A Sussex Police spokesman said: “We received a report at 1:34 am on July 30th about a break in a car in the parking lot of National Car Parks Ltd on Church Street, Brighton.

“The Sussex Police are continuing to investigate the incident.

“Witnesses or anyone with information should report it to the police online or call 101 and quote 74 dated 30/07.”

The parking lot operator denied Jack’s claims about the recent break-in. The Argus responded to ask if they wanted to change their comment after police confirmed they were investigating but received no response.

A spokesman said: “We hadn’t reported any break-ins in the past two weeks.

“We were previously aware of an incident in which three cars were broken into, and we have already stepped up our patrols at this point.

“We contact the police when incidents are reported to us, but we urge our customers to follow the instructions of the police and not leave any valuables in their cars when parking anywhere, not just in our parking lots. as this unfortunately encourages opportunistic thefts. ”
