Cyclist hospitalized after collision with car in Newcastle city center

A cyclist has been hospitalized after a car accident in downtown Newcastle.

Emergency services were called on Wednesday at around 8:40 a.m. to report a collision between a car and a cyclist on Percy Street.

The street was then partially closed by police from Prudhoe Place to Haymarket Lane.

The North East Ambulance Service dispatched a crew, a specialist paramedic, and a paramedic to the scene.

Paramedics treated the cyclist on site before he was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary.

The extent of his injuries is currently unknown.

A North East Ambulance Service spokesman said: “We received a call this morning at 8:47 am with reports of a road traffic incident involving a cyclist on Percy Street, Newcastle.

“We sent an ambulance, a paramedic and a paramedic.

“The patient was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary (RVI) for further treatment.”

Northumbria Police confirmed officers were present until the vehicle was recovered at around 11:40 a.m. and the road was cleared again shortly afterwards.
