Delays in the new barrier-free parking system in Bradgate Park due to “teething problems”

The new barrier parking system at Bradgate Park was shut down just a day after it went live and has still not returned

Popular park bosses said the system will go live again after the half-time break that ended on Friday June 4th.

Almost three weeks later, the Newtown Linford multi-storey car park is still using the old payment and display method.

The new system is to use the automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) to record the number plate of every vehicle that wants to use the parking space.

A Bradgate Park spokesperson told LeicestershireLive, “Our new ANPR system is not yet operational as we are doing some more work before it goes live to make sure it runs as smoothly as possible.”

“Technical problems” were to blame for the shutdown of the new parking system on Wednesday May 26th last month.

It was introduced to allow a 10 minute return but only had to be paid for and viewed again 24 hours later.

A trust spokesman has published a message on his Facebook site, in which the visitors are made aware of the “teething troubles”.

It says: “We will have no choice but to switch back to Pay & Display until the technical problems with ANPR have been resolved.

“Please pay at one of our pay machines in the parking lot on arrival and then display your ticket correctly on your window screen. Bradgate Park apologizes for the inconvenience.

“Please be patient, because this facility is also new to us, together we can overcome all teething troubles. If you have problems in this car park, we will have employees over the weekend to help you.”

An expected completion date has not been confirmed, but the Trust says it is continuing to work to reintroduce the new system soon.
