Doohan holds Schumacher back to win the finishing behind the safety car

The Trident driver picked up 15 points after starting from pole, where he will also start for tomorrow’s main race. In the drivers’ championship he is second behind Dennis Hauger from Prema Racing, who finished ninth.

He finished the race ahead of his teammate David Schumacher and Logan Sargeant from Charouz Racing System, who started fifth.

The race ended behind the second safety car of the race after a collision in the Eau Rouge / Raidillon section – the third of the weekend after a major collision in qualifying for the W-Series and Lando Norris’ rank in Formula 1 qualifying.

MP Motorsport’s Caio Collet was fourth, Clement Novalak’s third trident was fifth and Frederik Vesti (ART Grand Prix) was sixth.

The race started in the dry after the previous rainfalls, albeit with a lot of drizzle.

Alexander Smolyar was pushed far on the first lap while Logan Sargeant moved up from fifth to third and Vesti made up three places and moved up to sixth place.

On lap four Doohan had a comfortable lead of three seconds over his teammate Schumacher.

Johnathan Hoggard was sent by Arthur Leclerc while he was defending ninth place in Pouhon.

The two continued to fight, but Leclerc retained his position.

At halftime, Doohan had built a 3.4 second lead over Schumacher, while the darkening clouds indicated an impending downpour.

Amaury Cordeel received two five-second penalties for repeatedly exceeding the track limits at Turn 9 while several other drivers were cautioned for the same train.

A virtual safety car was set up after Matteo Nannini had entered the final chicane on lap 10 and braked off the racing line before losing the rear end and almost coming into contact with Hunter Yeany.

The rain finally fell on lap 11 and a full safety car appeared to control the field until the end of lap 13.

When the green flag was waved, Doohan retained his lead while Hauger overtook Leclerc at La Source to score another point for his championship campaign.

But the safety car was reinstated just moments later, with another accident at the helm of Raidillon involving Calan Williams of Jenzer Motorsport and Amaury Cordeel of Campos Racing, with both drivers getting out of their cars unaided.

Due to the extensive clean-up work and the difficult conditions, the race ended behind the safety car.

Results from races 2 – 16 laps
