Driver flees after crashing his car into a hollow in Bolton

A main road in Bolton was closed for several hours after a car drove into a hollow.

It happened on Chorley Old Road on Saturday night.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said they were made aware of a collision between a car and someone skipping the road just before 6 p.m.

“There are no reported injuries and the driver fled the scene before the police arrived,” said a police statement.

“No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.”

In a previous statement, GMP said they had been “called for a report of a disruption at Chorley Old Road, Bolton.

“The officers were there and discovered that there had been a traffic accident,” they said.

The road remained closed for several hours on Saturday night between the intersections with Mortfield Lane and Park Street, with local traffic controllers asking people to find alternative routes.

A red Opel Corsa with visible damage to the front could be seen within the police chain.
