Electric cars ‘less reliable than petrol or diesel models’ | News

Electric cars are more likely to develop a fault than petrol or diesel models, a survey has found.

More than 30 percent of electric car owners reported a problem with their vehicle in its first four years compared with 19 percent of petrol car owners and 29 percent of diesel drivers.

The most common faults raised by EV drivers were with software rather than the motor or battery, according to Which?, the consumer group, which conducted the poll.

Faulty electric vehicles spent an average of five days off the road compared with three and four days for petrol and diesel cars respectively in their first four years.

Plug-in vehicles accounted for more than one in six new cars registered in the UK
